In 1985, the summer before my senior year in High School, I purchased Double Nickles on the Dime. Along with Husker Du’s New Day Rising and Up on the Sun by the Meat Puppets, I played The Minutemen’s classic double album endlessly through my dad’s stereo system. With both my parents away at work, I would turn up Dad’s Sansui receiver, drive those enormous living room speakers, and shake all the paintings on the wall. The following year, while away at college, I learned of D.Boon’s tragic death. The Minutemen meant so much to me and despite the sadness still felt about D.Boon’s death, the music continues to inspire and bring endless joy.

Below are links to an assortment of all things Minutemen including two fantastic books, A Wailing of a Town by Craig Ibarra and Our Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes from the American Indie Underground, 1981–1991 by Michael Azerrad.
Also, the documentary We Jam Econo is a must see. The last fifteen minutes are beautiful and heartbreaking.
